Manual 2 | Securing land rights

This guide is the second volume in a series on land tenure in Haïti produced by the Haiti Property Law Working Group (HPLWG) and is on securing land rights.

This manual concentrates on key aspects of law that have become critical topics such as, the rights and obligations of the property owner, illegal land occupation (families occupying precariously private land or public land), tenant farming, the expropriation on the basis of public utility, subdivision and condominium.

The main purpose of this guide is to help home-owners, state farmers, contractors, prospective owners, renters, NGO’s and other interested parties anticipate and prevent complications resulting from the purchase and use of land and property in order to provide clarity and avoid future land conflicts. This tool is also meant to help understand some customary practices that sometimes differ from formal and legal procedure.
